The End of the Road

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released Hines Ward this afternoon.   This move is not a surprise because the team is up against the salary cap, and there were talks that Ward would not return for next season.     For 14 seasons Ward’s play has led to 4 Pro Bowl appearances, 1,000 receptions, two Super Bowl rings, plus the MVP in Super Bowl XL win over the Seattle Seahawks.   Ward is the all-time Steeler leader in  receiving yards, receptions, 100 yard games, and touchdowns.   He was a third round pick from Georgia in 1998 and went from being a special team player to an all pro player, plus a respected team leader.   What is next for Hines Ward will he retire from the NFL, or will he play for another team.   No matter what happens to Hines Ward two things that are true.  His place in Steeler history is assured, and a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame is assured as well.
