Opening Day

In two days, the Pittsburgh Pirates will have their 2013 home opener versus the Chicago Cubs.    Fans are excited about opening day, in spite of  20 consecutive losing seasons.     An example of this guarded optimism of Pirate fans is the anticipation of the arrival of pitcher Gerrit Cole who had a great spring, but will start out the season in the minors.   Fans are complaining that they will bring him up later on in the season to delay his clock to arbitration and free agency.    Some members of the media are saying that the Pirates don’t care about winning on the field but only about making money.    They only way this perception is going to change is that if the young talent is ready, and the Pirates win with more regularity
