Busy Off-Season

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a busy off-season since the Eastern Conference Finals. They resigned Evgeni Malkin to a 8 year/ $76 million deal, Kris Letang 8 year/$ 58 million deal, Chris Kunitz to a 3 year extension worth $11.5 million, and today resigned Craig Adams to a 2 year/ $1.4 million deal, plus a free agent deal with Rob Scuderi that is worth 4 years/ $13.4 million.

All these deals have sent a message that the Penguins are ready to go after the Stanley Cup next season, and keeping head coach Dan Bylsma with a 3 year contract extension. This is showing me that they didn’t want to make any changes that could be bad in the long run. However, other players will not be back next season like Matt Cooke who signed a 3 year deal with the Minnesota Wild, and Jarome Iginla signed a one year deal with the Boston Bruins.

Will all of these deals hurt the young talent like Simon Despres and Beau Bennett. The answers will be given in training camp and that starts in two months.
